i've taken the time to rebut some claims, b/c i feel it is my duty as a good internet hack, errr...citizen, to correct statements when someone is wrong on the internet (don't forget to mouseover).

A red light may have been involved in all of these but many of the instances such as 1:33 have to be distracted driving or DUI.

i will say that both incidents around the 1:33 mark seem to me to be clear red light-running violations. what other conditions might have led up to the crime of running those red lights and doing that damage, we can debate -- it could impact how the person is charged/sentenced, etc. -- but i still don't understand how the vast majority/probably all of these incidents could be viewed as anything but red light violations at least, and often, most importantly.

Pedestrian at 2:29 was crossing with the light and looked like he/they was/were struck by a driver that was planning on making the RTOR without stopping.

it's my impression that this is a fairly common complaint among drivers who get caught not stopping for a red light when they're making a right turn on red (RTOR). the charge 'running a red light', on paper and in fines/points/etc., seems more severe (has a worse/more-evil connotation) than running a red light straight through an intersection, but it's still running a red light. maybe you'd argue for 'running a red while making a right' should be penalized differently/less, but running a red it surely is. in this case, i guess you could charge him w/ all sorts of things, but i agree that he does look like he was about to make a RTOR without stopping (tho he was going very fast -- i've done this before when i wasn't paying attention [not hit anyone while doing it tho, fortunately], and knowing i'd probably die if i rolled straight into/thru the intersection, i've jammed on brakes and turned hard-right to save the day) -- in other words, he was in the process of running a red light when a pedestrian got in his way. it's like this philly video -- a blinking red light -- it requires a full stop whether you're going straight or making a right - but the only time most people stop is when a pedestrian gets in the way. that's a 'running a red light' violation, and/or 'running a stop sign and/or blinking red light' violation.

and, why isn't there a crime for hitting/killing someone? if it's your fault, then that should be 'assault/murder', right? or, at least, the 'manslaughter' versions of both of those charges. i guess they have them, but they need to be much easier for a DA to charge someone.

Kind of a sidebar off of what Mike Perkins and Jason said, but at least 3 of the examples may have had nothing to do with red light running, but were instead cases of a general green light with turning traffic failing to yield to opposing through traffic.

i counted two possible examples that are not as conclusively/definitively red-light-running incidents as all the others -- one after the other, at the 4:13 mark -- but they still seem like red-light running violations to me.

for the first one, i gather the left turners were most/all running the left turn red light, but happened to be 'in the process of turning already', and it was clear, so they'd use those reasons as justifications to themselves and to the cops if they got ticketed. the first couple of folks made it thru no problem. the last guy, however, the one that got hit, he tried to tag along w/ the two left-turners in front of him -- probably an impulsive decision -- but just risked it too much and got hit. he was not already in the process of turning when his left turn light was already red. #fail go to #jail.

the second one seems to me to have a full-on traffic light, with a left-turn signal, and the left turner just ran his left-turn red light. it's a bit harder to tell on this one b/c of all the fog, we can hardly see the lights, turn lanes, etc., but i'd still lean towards 'red light running' violation.

a bunch of the previous ones are also left-turn-related red light violations -- not 'failure to yield on the part of the left-turners' violations, though -- the left turners had the right of way/green arrow/turn lights. for instance, the truck that comes in and rips the front end off the minivan at 1:49 is running his straight-ahead red light. ditto the following incident at 1:51 -- it's just not as obvious as the previous example b/c only one of the left-turn lanes has traffic. ditto the next one at 1:55 - the white car just tries to run straight thru the red light. ditto the one at 2:09 - white car running straight thru a red light, when it was only a green left arrow coming from his direction. ditto at 2:40.

the one at 2:30 is just too much -- car hits two people, one of whom is a little kid w/ a balloon - then you just see the balloon float up and away - like it's the kid's soul.
